Part of my Nice Birds, Nasty Birds felt series, also showing nine mini quilts and the TeaSet Collaboration.

Finished knitting a very simple pair of fingerless gloves that ended up taking far longer to make than they should have because the pattern was wrong, Erika Knight - Shame on you!  However the wool only cost £3.50 and I love the fact that the left is pink and the right hand red.

This is taken at Les Arcs 1800 in France.  Each year there is a Grotte de Glace - an ice cave which is filled with ice sculptures carved by different artists.   I was very taken by this centrepiece of an Earth Mother Goddess that reminded me of the Ice Age Art at the British Museum.

Jackie and Julieanne at Royal Festival Hall, London with the cloth that we have been adding to over the past six months for the TeaSet collaboration.  A man had just walked right across where I was photographing and apparently I was glaring at him....me?  We also attracted the attention of three knitters from the local wool shop in Lower Marsh St that were meeting at the RFH to knit together at lunchtime, so lovely to get feedback from random strangers that are interested in the same stuff.

Managed to get a ticket for the Ice Age Art show at the British Museum last week.  Not too big but plenty of artifacts with fabulous line drawings and a really interesting film of some of the cave paintings in Europe too.  No photography allowed and only 5 postcards to choose from that weren't the best examples (in my opinion) but lovely to see and a shame it wasn't on last year when Jackie and I did the cave art installation for Prism 2012.  Can't wait for the Pompeii and Herculaneum exhibition to open at the end of this month.

Meeting up at the British Museum last Saturday with the TeaSet to bring our textile cakes and cups together and plan the rest of the collaboration for the Prism show in May.  Willeke drove over from Holland and Anna flew in from Sweden for the weekend, just proving their dedication and faith in the project.  Tried to see the Ice Age Art exhibition but it was completely sold out so went to the Brunei Gallery to see an amazing World Textile show which featured some quite exquisite work.

Emma Pickering

 

Emma Pickering is a good friend of mine living in Dorset who makes wonderful stuff.  This is a small acrylic on board that I bought a long time ago from her which reminds me of a jollier version of Antoni Tapies in Tate Modern...which is also a LOT bigger too!  She also makes sculpture as well as fabulous silver jewellery.  More pics to the right on the Artist Friends page.  This is where I'd like to show off my friends that are so talented and need more recognition in the wider world.
